Health benefits of garlic: Garlic contains B vitamins, it is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, blood purifier, it also helps to regulate blood sugar levels and blood pressure. Garlic has antibiotic properties as well as hormone balancing properties. Phytoestrogens in garlic can help perimenopausal and menopausal women. Raw and cooked garlic have different properties, hence it is good to eat both. If you dislike the taste (or smell!) there are many odour free supplements available out there. Be well!

Allow yourself to be happy. Too many people do not realise that happiness is a choice. Are you living the life you want to live, or one that you are expected to live? Are you stuck in the same patterns and habitual behaviours that do not fulfill you? Are you busying and distracting yourself constantly to avoid facing your real needs? Most common regrets in later life are having spent too much time working, not having been brave enough to make different choices, and not spending enough time with loved ones and losing touch with old friends. Health kinesiology is a powerful therapy that can support you and free you to be yourself, amongst other things. Be the person you are meant to be.

Sugar
There is a vast difference between simple sugars – the refined processed kind usually added to foods – and the slow-releasing carbohydrates (wholegrains, pulses, fruit and veg.) that the body converts to glucose to use as fuel. One is ageing, the other is vital. Simple sugar is involved in four of the ageing processes – acidication, inflammation, emilinative slowdown and hormonal imbalance. A diet full of highly sugared foods slows the body’s ability to regenerate itself and so speeds the ageing process. On an everyday level it causes aching joints, cravings, flabby belly, lack of muscle tone, lowered alertness, mood swings, puffy eyes, spots, tooth decay and wrinkles. Sugar has been shown to sorten life span, hence its nickname ‘white death’. It is the most ageing food of all. -E. Peyton-Jones, dietician
Health kinesiology can help you!

As many indulge in rich food and alcohol at this time of the year, there are simple ways to support your body. Keep hydrated by increasing your water consumption. Divide your body weight in kilos by 30 to calculate the amount of water in litres you require on a normal day. To rehydrate after a heavy night mix 6 level teaspoons of sugar and one level teaspoon of salt in one litre of water, mix well and drink. Alcohol irritates stomach lining, to prevent and help with this take friendly bacteria in a sugar and additive free capsule form, these are readily available in health food shops and on line (e.g. acidophilus and others). To help with digestion of heavy and rich foods take digestive enzyme supplement, available as above. Digestive enzymes are produced by healthy bodies, but occasionally a boost is of benefit. Take with each rich meal. It is the stomach acids that break down the food and antacids such as Rennie do not help with this due to their alkalising effect. Take milk thistle supplement to support your liver.
Happy Christmas!

We catch cold viruses easily via contact as well as via droplets in the air. Wash your hands regularly when out and as soon as you arrive home before you spread the germs into your own home. Cover your mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, throw away the tissues and wash hands. Antibiotics do not work for viruses, so when you have a cold, have plenty of rest, fluids, and healthy food including plenty of fruit and vegetables. Take vitamin C and echinacea to boost immunity. If you catch every virus going, your immunity is low and you need to take steps to optimise it.

To keep you safe from wasp stings at this time of the year, avoid wearing sweet perfumes and eating and drinking outdoors, especially of alcohol, fruit and other sweet foods. If you get stung, gently dab the area with a clean tissue, place it 2″ under your navel (this is an acupoint called central vessel 6) and follow the tapping procedure on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRq8RRpuD1I . For extreme reaction seek medical help immediately.
